Fort Tilden series by Tova Byrne

Call it overkill, because that’s what it was. On a rare warm day in February, one of the first truly beautiful days of the year in New York, we decided to hit the beach. We trekked all the way out to Fort Tilden in the Rockaways before we realized just how stupid we’d been not to bring more layers, but we made the most of our beach day anyway. In the very least, the cold and the wind left us the place pretty much to ourselves. It allowed us to explore abandoned army bases and summer rec centers alike, making for an incredibly memorable day nonetheless.
