CULTURE SHOCK 2017, Purchase College’s annual music festival on campus that presents the newest and best music

Published

on

This past weekend, I attended CULTURE SHOCK; Purchase College’s annual music festival on campus that presents the newest and best music. Past shows have hosted Destiny’s Child, Drake and Kehlani before major success. Purchase is also known for its quirky liberal arts nature with killer programs that put out incredible artists, but also for the fashion of the students that attend. The campus encourages an awareness of identity and self-love, giving those who wish the opportunity to roam in whatever presentation that fulfills them. This assertion of identity and passion for presentation creates some of the coolest looks for right now.

CULTURE SHOCK is the best event of the year not only for the music, but also for the fashion adorned by these young artists and intellectuals. I managed to snap some street style shots from the two days of the festival to exhibit this uninhibited, expressive environment.

Sphynx Skin by Salvador Hernández, a photographer from Mexico City

Published

on

Salvador Hernández, a photographer from Mexico City, focuses on the construction of characters and fictions by contrasting concepts in exaggerating and decontextualizing situations; using ambiguity, mystery and sometimes humor to set a mood.

Dictator & French Fries (the sphynx cats) were the main source of inspiration for this editorial, the way they move, pose and specially the look of their skin set the creative direction for lighting and color. I wanted to display across this editorial that distinctive air of sophistication and eeriness about the sphynx breed, using perspective, color and texture as a resource to create some sort of symbiosis between the cats and the model.
