A satirical look into the “American Dream.”

Published

on

I created a series of images that reflected a physique much like those of the Romanticism era of painting. The work became an ironic shrine to the lifestyle America has come to worship as perfection… and that is freedom. The United States of America worships this idea of freedom like a God. Each person puts their own beliefs behind that word and give themselves enough room to live their life how they see fit. Whether it is the mass consumption of your local 24-hour drive thru, or having enough assault rifles to support small-scale invasion. Everyone defines their freedom how they see fit in the U.S.A.

Originally a painter, I strived to recreate the beauty of the human form in my work. Moving to Analog photograph back in 2016 gave me the power to manipulate a person and their environment into my interpretation of beauty.
I believe film photograph can capture the raw soul of a photo in my work, that is why it is the only medium I use. I am from Miami, Florida but currently studying in London, England to further my artistic experimentation.

Sphynx Skin by Salvador Hernández, a photographer from Mexico City

Published

on

Salvador Hernández, a photographer from Mexico City, focuses on the construction of characters and fictions by contrasting concepts in exaggerating and decontextualizing situations; using ambiguity, mystery and sometimes humor to set a mood.

Dictator & French Fries (the sphynx cats) were the main source of inspiration for this editorial, the way they move, pose and specially the look of their skin set the creative direction for lighting and color. I wanted to display across this editorial that distinctive air of sophistication and eeriness about the sphynx breed, using perspective, color and texture as a resource to create some sort of symbiosis between the cats and the model.
